Brandon S. Stephens entered the oil and gas industry as a field landman in the summer of 1998 by pulling books and learning how to run title in a small courthouse in Wyoming while on summer break from attending the University of Oklahoma (OU). He continued working as a field landman throughout college until graduating from OU with an Energy Management Degree in 2001.
Brandon began his career as an in-house landman with Bass Enterprises Production Company (now BOPCO) out of Fort Worth, TX. After gaining an enormous amount of experience working at a company that was hands on in so many different aspects of the industry, Brandon accepted a position as an in-house landman at Kerr-McGee Rocky Mountain Corporation in Denver, CO where he was involved with an extremely fast paced developmental program in the DJ Basin. His experience continued to grow at Kerr-McGee until he was offered a rare opportunity to be instrumental with a start-up company named Matador Resources (MTDR on NASDAQ) out of Dallas, TX. Brandon was initially hired as an in-house landman by Matador but was quickly promoted to Land Manager and later to Business Development Manager wherein he was tasked with identifying new opportunities for the company as well as negotiating vast amounts of deals to grow the company’s land position. After having a successful career at Matador, Brandon sought out his true dream of creating and owning his own business and thus went out on his own in March of 2007.
Stephens Land Services was a natural transition for Brandon because of his past combination of experience as an in-house landman, field landman and his time spent in business development. Since 2007, Brandon has hired, managed and overseen hundreds of landmen while serving some of the biggest and most respected clients in the entire oil and gas industry.
Brandon promotes a workplace that values relationships, true work ethic and utmost respect for everyone he, his company and his contractors/employees deals with on a daily basis. He is very active in multiple associations across the United States including the American Association of Professional Landmen, Oklahoma City Association of Professional Landmen, Dallas Association of Professional Landmen, Denver Association of Landmen and Fort Worth Association of Landmen, National Association of Lease Analysts and National Association of Division Order Analysts as well as previously being a member or serving multiple other oil and gas associations across the United States. Brandon holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Oklahoma with an emphasis in Energy Management. He currently resides in Norman, OK and is originally from Pauls Valley, OK.
